Physical

Whilst Reading, Writing and Maths are all important to your child's development, it is essential that children have as much chance as possible to get outside everyday whatever the weather, to develop their mental health and also both their fine and gross motor skills.  When out in the garden play games to practise throwing and catching, skipping, hopping, jumping and balancing, ride a bike and play hopscotch.  The list is endless but the most important part of Physical Learning is to have lots of fun!

Fine Motor Skills

Before a child is ready to learn to write, they need to have developed good fine motor skills.  This will enable them to hold their pencil correctly and with some control in order for them to be able to put the appropriate pressure on their pencil to make marks and form letters.  To help the children to develop their fine motor skills we enjoy 'Dough Disco' which helps to strengthen the necessary muscles involved in their fingers, hands and wrists.  Shonette Bason-Wood is famous for her 'dough disco moves' and you can find many of her videos on YouTube. The link below is just one example.
