Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage
We hope you find this area informative and a place that you can find out about the curriculum and the daily practice of your early years child.
At Hilton Primary School we ensure all of our children learn through a play based curriculum. We are extremely passionate about providing an exciting, stimulating inside and outside environment to engage and encourage all children to be independent learners.
We have a highly experienced and dedicated team of EYFS professionals, who ensure that all children have equal opportunities to progress and learn.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of the following:
- Three Reception classes with a teacher and a teaching assistant in each class.
Rabbits Hedgehogs Badgers
Two 26 place Nursery classes with a teacher and full time teaching assistant.
We aim to offer the 30 hour funding to families that are eligible from September 2018.

Assessment in our Early Years...
We are currently using Tapestry to assess the children in our Early Years units. Tapestry is an online learning journal which captures children's learning and progression through photographs, videos, and observations. Throughout the year we create an online learning journey which parents can follow and contribute to.
Here at Hilton Primary School we are proud of the good relationships we make with parents/ carers. We work positively as a team with parents/ carers to ensure children make good progress.
Each parent has a unique log in that can only be accessed by staff and the parents/ carers. This is a secure area and only the parent/ carer can view their child's online learning journey.
The Learning Journeys help to inform future planning and are used to support a final report at the end of the academic year. Reception children have two parents evening throughout the year and Nursery children have one parents evening throughout the year where your child's next steps will be shared.
As well as the learning journey, class teachers will also complete formal assessments regularly which focus on the key skills in Maths and Literacy.
