This week in maths we will be working on different ways to sort and group coins.
You can practice this at home using some 1p, 2p and 5p coins. To start with you could try sorting them in different ways with your helper, talking about how you decided where to put each one.
You can play a game where one person sorts the coins and the other person works out the sorting rule.
Can you work out how I have sorted these coins?
Can you work out how I have sorted them this time?
What's the sorting rule here?
If you would like the answers, they are right at the bottom of the page.
We will also be comparing the value of coins by building up a number line like this one.
We will be using our number line to help us to compare the value of the coins we have been learning about using sentences like these:
Can you make up some sentences of your own like these?
1. One group is silver coins, the other group is bronze coins
2. One group is coins worth 2p or more, the other group is coins worth less than 2p.
3. One group has the value written in digits, one group has the value written in words.
