Family Support

There are a number of reasons why extra help is sometimes needed. Getting the right information, advice and support at the right time can help.

If you're worried about your child’s health or development please make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher, our Family Support Worker (Mrs Barratt), our Senior First Aider (Mrs Key) or a senior member of staff. Alternatively, you can speak to your health visitor or doctor.

Mrs Barratt is our school Family Support Worker.

As your Family Support Worker, she is here to listen, support and help your family in any way she can with any issues you may be experiencing.

She is based in the Family Room which can be accessed either via the school’s main entrance or directly through the door under the canopy, next to Nursery.

Some of the things she may be able to help with include:

  • Support for you concerning your child’s behaviour
  • Getting your child to school on time / good attendance
  • Signposting to services and agencies to support your family around benefits and emotional well-being etc.
  • Help with change i.e divorce or bereavement
  • Any anxieties, worries you or your child may have.

If you would like to report a family circumstance that you feel may affect your child, please complete and return the form available at the bottom of this page.

If you feel your family would benefit from support or you would like an informal chat, you can contact her directly on 07790 954758, this number can accept voice calls or text messages.  You can also leave a message for her at the school office or email her:

Please do not hesitate to contact Jess for advice and support whenever you feel it necessary.

Our local multi-agency team (Ashbourne and Etwall MAT, based at John Port Spencer Academy) can also offer information, advice and practical support. They also support in circumstances where children are:

  • not attending school or are at risk of exclusion from school
  • not in education, training or employment after the age of 16
  • involved in anti-social behaviour or at risk of becoming involved in crime
  • carers for other family members

To get in touch with the MAT, please call 01629 533650

Alternatively, we may seek advice from:

  • school health
  • behaviour support service
  • education psychologist
  • police safer neighbourhood team

Please do get in touch if you think we can help you – often a little support early on prevents those needs escalating.
