Can you create your own fossil, now that we are learning about sedimentary rocks in our Earth Science lessons?
This Dojo challenge is all about reusing something that would otherwise have ended up in the recycling bin. It has been inspired by the work of the artist Darrell Wakelam, who creates wonderful sculptures using waste cardboard, paper and plastic. He works with lots of children and he is particularly interested in creating objects from history and fabulous prehistoric fossils. Below you can see a selection of pictures of some of his work.
Every week during lockdown, he has been sharing some practical ideas for ways you can build your own 3D artwork using everyday waste such as empty 4 pint milk bottles, cereal boxes, paper plates, old magazines...there is actually no limit to the things that you could use.
We would like you to create your own fossil (or dinosaur), inspired by the work of Darrell Wakelam. If you need some ideas, he has created some ideas sheets that I have uploaded below, but feel free to research your own fossils and come up with your own designs. We would love to see your creations on your Dojo portfolios, so don't forget to send us a photo.
